SASSA introduces a biometric ID verification process to stop fraud.

Beneficiaries of the grant who change their mobile numbers and beneficiaries suspected of questionable identity must undergo a biometric ID verification.
“These include those who have been vulnerable to identity theft at banks,” said SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi.
“Similar to an application, this is a one-time activity to unlock a blocked account or to make a ‘high risk’ change to the client profile,” Letsatsi said.

Steps to SASSA identity verification:

Contact SASSA to request identity verification.
Receive an SMS link to an internet page.
Take a photo of their face and send it back.
Receive notification if the process was successful or not.

According to Letsatsi, flagged beneficiaries who do not complete the SASSA ID verification process, “Their grants will remain suspended”.
