Deputy ministers earn between R2 million and R2.1 million per year. 

Deputy Minister Duties:

A South African Deputy Minister is appointed to assist a Cabinet Minister in the management and administration of a specific government department or portfolio. 

They are accountable to the Cabinet Minister and the President for the performance of their duties. The Deputy Minister’s responsibilities include assisting the Cabinet Minister in the development and implementation of policies and programs, as well as representing their department and the government as a whole at both national and international events and meetings. 

In the absence of the Cabinet Minister, the Deputy Minister may also be required to assume their duties and responsibilities. Additionally, Deputy Ministers are often responsible for engaging with stakeholders, including civil society organizations and the private sector, to ensure that the views and interests of these groups are taken into account in policy development and implementation.
