TVET Colleges will try to help solve this crytical shortage, by nearly doubling the number of students to train as artisans during the 2023 academic year. It offers lower course fees, and also NSFAS bursaries.
A few examples of the TVET
courses include:
NC(V): Electrical Infrastructure Construction (L2 – L4);
Carpentry & Roofing (N1 – N3);
Electrical (N1 – N3);
Plumbing (N1 – N3);
Masonry / Bricklaying (N1 – N3);
Water & Sanitation (N1 – N3);
Motor Body Repair (N1 – N3);
Motor Mechanic (N1 – N3);
Welding (N1 – N3);
And more.

In addition to TVET Colleges, there are skills training centres set up throughout the country, and in some cases, a Grade 12 is not essential for an artisan qualification.
The conversion of unused schools into vocational skills centres that will focus on scarce technical skills, is option considered by the Departments of Education and Higher Education and Learning and Provincial Government.
