2022 Employment Statistics of South Africa
Below are the 2022 Employment Statistics of South Africa. The Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS), was released by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), on 23 August 2022.
The official unemployment rate: 33,9%
New jobs gained between the first quarter of 2022 and the second quarter of 2022: 648 000.
Biggest job gains were recorded in:
- Community and Social Services (276 000);
- Trade (169 000);
- Finance (128 000);
- Construction (104 000).
Job losses recorded in:
- Manufacturing (73 000);
- Transport (54 000).
Employment vs Unemployment Statistics:
The total number of unemployed youth (aged 15-34): 4,8 million.
The total number of employed persons: 15,6 million.
The unemployed number of persons increased by: 132 000
The total number of unemployed persons: 8,0 million.
The total number of discouraged work-seekers decreased by: 183 000 (4,9%)
