Your chances of getting hired in South Africa could vary on the region, according to the recently published employment insights overview CareerJunction report.

In February 2023, Gauteng had 54% (the most) advertised vacancies, the Western Cape had 22% and 10% in KwaZulu-Natal.

Good news for the health sector as an employment growth showed an increase of 51% in Gauteng, 15% in KwaZulu-Natal and 12% in Western Cape, especially in crytical Medical and Health skills.

While medical and health hiring activity is generally on the decrease, the following scarce skills are in higher demand:

General practitioner;
Occupational health nurse practitioner;
Emergency doctor

Below are salaries that are currently market-related:

Pharmacist monthly pay: R39,934 – R49,238
Registered nurse monthly pay: R20,997 – R29,113
Medical doctor monthly pay: R43,333 – R82,916

According to the same report, Gauteng, W Cape and KZN showed the biggest declines in demand for information technology.

  • Database design/ development/ administration;
  • Data analysis/ data warehousing

Business and Management (-9%)

  • Team leader & supervisor
  • Middle/ department management;
  • Executive management/ director;
  • Business development.
